What’s your fragrance?
Have you ever had a discussion with your wife or husband about what you should eat on a Saturday night? I don’t mean what food to have, but what flavours you have in the food. Becci and I always find ourselves saying to each other “We’d better not have garlic tonight as we will be at church tomorrow and we will be talking to people”
If we are careful with what we eat because we don’t want to smell bad to others, why do we not always care about what we smell like to God? In Ephesians 5:1-2 it says, “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Are we walking as a living sacrifice daily for God (Romans 12:2) just as Jesus did, living each day in love towards God and also towards others? In the next bit of Ephesians 5 it tells us how to live a life that gives a pleasing fragrance to the Lord.
If we are a pleasing fragrance to God, surely we will be living in such a way that we start standing out to others in our communities and in our work. In turn we will not just be giving a fragrance to the Lord but to others and that smell draws them to the Lord.
Today if you have a chance, sit down and read through Ephesians 5 and let the Lord speak to you and direct you to become a fragrance that pleases Him.
